Mstar Gone? UTOPIA Removes Them From the List of Providers

Frequent commenter Capt. Video pointed out that UTOPIA’s website no longer shows Mstar as a provider on the network, but there doesn’t appear to be any replacement for them. This means that no current providers offer video service. Mstar’s website, however, has not been similarly updated and still shows them as a provider. Anyone know what’s going on? Are current Mstar customers still getting service?

    UTOPIA updates their website!

    What next.

    Mass Hysteria???
    Dogs and cats living together???

And commenting on the subject. Wow. just Wow.

Whats going to happen to the existing MSTAR customers?

Maybe that is why they are hiring those CSR’s for UTOPIA?

  2. Ben Saunders says:

No downside here. The sooner they have left UTOPIA, the better. I am anxious to hear who will take over the customers.

MSTAR had trouble paying their iProvo and Utopia bills. They are looking to sell of their customers to the highest bidder.

  4. John says:

My parents are still receiving service via MSTAR (Jan 2009). Can somebody provide an update as to MSTAR’s standing on the UTOPIA network?

    Thanks,
    John

  5. Capt. Video says:

I think only UTOPIA can provide that, and they are not know for sharing information with the public.

But Mstar is serving thousands of customers on the UTOPIA network and currently they are the only video provider on the network.

I’m sure your parents will hear from UTOPIA or MStar if something changes. UTOPIA’s not listing MStar on their web site should not cause them to panic.

I’d really like to know what’s going on with them. I would think that getting listed as a provider and being able to tap into new markets that open would be a top priority for them.

  7. Tom says:

Hey they could be in good standing w/ UTOPIA right now. Just wait 3 years for UTOPIA to update their website again. I believe their update cycle is around 3 years. Maybe in an emergency they can move it to 2 years.

  8. Mstar Insider says:

Mstar is in a better financial position right now than it ever has been. It isn’t going anywhere. We don’t know what the deal is with not being on the Utopia website, but it doesn’t matter. Nobody really goes to the website anyway. Mstar is still regularly installing new Utopia customers. Sometimes entering new markets isn’t financially beneficial or practical, depending on size and location. Sometimes it is. Mstar weighs each decision on where to offer services on that basis, but will absolutely be serving its current customers for years to come.

  9. Ben Saunders says:

Congratulations to Mstar for weathering the storm. I am sure it has been a hard fought battle! I am betting they will long outlive Broadweave.

Are they still off the list but actually providing?

    • Jesse says:

Mstar was absorbed into Prime Time who then went under and sent their customers to Veracity (the ones who stayed, anyway). It’s pretty messy, even now.
